The
overall climate of Belize can be described as sub-tropical. The mean
annual humidity is 83%, but many days the humidity is masked by the cooling
sea breezes. The temperatures in Belize range from 50°F to 95°F with
an annual mean of 79°F. Light, informal clothing is recommended.

department stores, large shops, hotels and restaurants accept international
credit cards. |

| Economy |
|
| Belize
has a small open economy, and its principal sectors are currently (1) agriculture,
(2) manufacturing, which primarily includes agro-products such as sugar
and citrus products, and (3) services, which includes primarily tourism.
From 1997 through 2001, tourism averaged 20% of Gross Domestic Product
(GDP). Agriculture, agro-product manufacturing and tourism are the major
foreign exchange earners. Currently, sugar, citrus and banana account for
at least 60% of the earnings accruing from merchandise exports. Also, marine
products (including seafood such as shrimp) and small manufacturing make
notable contributions to exports. |

| Insurance & Liability |

PGDIS
does not accept liability for individual medical, travel and
personal insurance, and participants are strongly advised to take out their
own personal insurance policies in their country of origin. Any sorts of
insurance will not be provided.

| Passport & Visa |
|
In
order for visitors to drive into Belize from Guatemala or Mexico, a temporary
importation permit must be secured at the point of entry. Permits are valid
for 1 month but can be extended by applying to the Customs Department.
To get a permit, present the following at the point of entry:
• Travel documents and identification
• Proof of ownership (vehicle registration)
• Insurance from any of the companies at the borders
• Rental documents (for vehicles rented in Mexico or Guatemala) |
